In Memoriam: OrbusNeich mourns the passing of Mr. Teddy Chien, our visionary Chairman Emeritus and Founder

We are deeply saddened to announce that Mr. Teddy Chien, the Chairman Emeritus and Founder of OrbusNeich, departed peacefully on June 11, 2025, surrounded by his family.

As a visionary entrepreneur, Mr. Teddy Chien’s contributions to the medical industry spanned over five decades. His life was defined by integrity, passion, and an enduring commitment to improving patients’ lives. In the 1970s, he was a true pioneer, among the first to introduce modern pacemakers and cardiac catheterization devices to patients in Asia. Early in his career, he partnered with leading medical companies such as Cordis Corporation to bring life-saving cardiovascular technologies to the region. After that venture was later acquired by Johnson & Johnson in 1996, he sensed a new opportunity to further serve patients.

Through his entrepreneurial vision, he founded Neich Medical (the former name of OrbusNeich) 25 years ago, envisioning a leading industry player capable of competing with large, well-established multinationals on a global scale. Under his guidance, OrbusNeich grew into a major global medical device manufacturer specializing in interventional devices for percutaneous coronary intervention and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty procedures, renowned for its quality and innovation. From an initial focus on the Asia Pacific market, OrbusNeich has expanded its footprint to over 70 countries and regions globally.

One of the key milestones of his leadership at OrbusNeich was the acquisition of Orbus Medical Technologies Inc., which expanded our research and development capacity to the United States, and production and sales capabilities to Europe. This bold move integrated world-class stent technologies into our portfolio and solidified OrbusNeich’s position on the global stage. After serving as Chairman for over 16 years, Mr. David Chien, his son, succeeded him as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of OrbusNeich.

Mr. Teddy Chien was deeply passionate about nurturing the next generation of medical professionals. In 1997, he founded the Chien Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to training young interventional cardiologists and advancing cardiovascular research. Through this foundation, he provided resources and opportunities for physicians in Asia to learn cutting-edge techniques, reflecting his belief that raising the standard of healthcare in the region was part of OrbusNeich’s mission. Some in the industry fondly referred to him as China’s “godfather” of cardiovascular intervention, a nickname born from the pivotal role he played in establishing this field in our part of the world. There is no doubt that his works in OrbusNeich and the Chien Foundation have saved countless lives and laid the foundation for modern cardiology practice in Asia.

Mr. Teddy Chien believed that if we maintain our integrity, passion, innovation, and performance, we can overcome any challenge. These core values remain the bedrock of OrbusNeich’s culture. We will continue OrbusNeich’s successful growth trajectory in the spirit of Mr. Teddy Chien, to push boundaries in research and technology, collaborate closely with clinicians, and strive for excellence in serving patients.

The entire OrbusNeich extends its deepest condolences to the Chien family.
